Technology is
problem solving
in motion.

Software engineers use knowledge to make products and services that solve people’s problems. They build, design, test, and fix the systems behind banking apps, video games, medical equipment, and car software.

According to the Government of Canada’s Job Bank, software engineers work in tech companies, banks, government offices, and consulting firms. A normal day might include writing code, fixing mistakes, reviewing a teammate’s work, or meeting with a client to plan a project. The job is about working with people as much as working with computers.
